The Vikings
In Swan Class, we have immersed ourselves in all things Viking! As well as learning about the way they lived and the true story of the Viking invasion of Anglo-Saxon England, in our Design Technology lessons, we planned, built and tested our very own Viking Longships! We even got to become Vikings for a day, when for our WOW day, we dressed up in carefully researched costumes (no horns!). Decorating shields, creating Norse god trading cards and even making mead (non-alcoholic of course!) was great fun!
In English, we have been studying Arthur and the Golden Rope. This wonderful book inspired us to write a motivational letter to spur on the title character as he took on the colossal challenge of saving his village. We posted these in an Icelandic postbox and he even sent us a video of him reading the letters. Sure he looked a little like the Year 6 teacher Fay but Ross assures us that's purely coincidental and suggested that maybe Fay was a little bit Viking herself...Our learning's hands-on!
Elsewhere in our learning, We've been pulling up our sleeves and getting hands-on in science, where we've been learning about Forces and Magnets. We still can't believe the whole class was able to make their paperclip fly! In maths too, we've been getting the counters out and creating the sums we've been answering in our books. It really helps our learning! Finally, we can't forget trying seasonal fruit and vegetables and then having a go at making Sauerkraut! It sure was smelly but who knew raw cabbage tastes so sweet!
