Pauline Oliveros was a composer and played the accordian. She was very interested in electronic music and also listening. She tried to make music about every single sound. One of the ways she did that was by making music that encouraged people to listen to everything around them. Her method was called ‘deep listening’ (on the video you can see her waiting before she plays, listening to everything that is happening).
Can you describe the beginning, middle and end of a piece of Oliveros music?
Is there a sound of silence? Can you ever hear it?
Is there a reason why some of her music might sound like music from the Renaissance?
