Ludwig van Beethoven

Beethoven's music sounds like it is always moving, as if on a journey somewhere.  He was very interested in the way you tell a musical story using ‘structure’.  His musical structures let you hear something, and then follow its journey.  Very often it is a complicated journey and what happens at the end makes sense of what happened in the middle and the beginning.

Questions.

Can you hear a beginning, middle and end in these pieces of music by Beethoven?

Hard

What is it like listening to Beethoven when you know that he is taking you on a journey somewhere, but you don’t know where? (or maybe you do?).

What does that mean to you at the moment you hear something?
