The adults in our class are Shianne & Sandra.

We are Stoneydown!

Chiffchaff class are really enjoying our new topic 'We are Stoneydown'. We have been learning about the history of Walthamstow and comparing the past and present of key locations in the area. We also compared our school playgrounds to other playgrounds in different UK towns and different countries. When exploring our local park, we discovered that elements of our park could be improved, so we wrote our own letters to the council. We also used our mapping skills to explore cities and towns in the UK, using an atlas.

Check out some of our projects below.

 Marvellous Maths!

In maths we have been exploring place value with 2-digit numbers. We have been recognising numbers between 0 and 100, using dienes and counters to partition numbers when calculating addition and subtraction number sentences and problems. We then deepened our understanding of addition and subtraction by working very hard on difficult concepts like 'adding by making 10', however, we used our super-duper number bond prior knowledge to achieve this. Number bonds are very important in maths, so we devoted extra time on this, so we could become fluent and fabulous.

Wonderful Writing!

In English, we have been using a range of writing skills to produce a letter about our local area of Walthamstow. We started our letter writing journey by studying an amazing book called ‘The Day the Crayons Quit!’, followed by a local Walthamstow story book called 'Yellow Man: A Walthamstory'.  We produced a letter to introduce a new crayon called 'Super Crayon', ensuring we used the key features of a informal letter. We then moved onto creating a setting description on our local area based on on the Yellow Man story. Check out our setting descriptions of Walthamstow Market below.
